What was your route to becoming a production designer?

I studied theatre and film in college. After graduating from The University of Texas I moved to LA to work in the film business. There I ended up working in the art department on TV projects. I moved to NYC met people in fashion and started to work on my own design projects.

What have been your career highlights?

Over the years, I have worked with the most incredible photographers, directors and designers. Working on large scale exhibitions and fashion shows have been some highlights.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I’ve always loved the Diana Vreeland quote “the eye has to travel.” Travel for me is always a great source of inspiration. Art is another big source. We’re lucky to have so many incredible galleries and museums in NYC.

How long have you lived in Brookhaven and what is it about the community you love?

I have been in the Bellport/Brookhaven Hamlet area for 17 years now. It has a small town vibe and a great community spirit with interesting people. Everything is within a few miles of each other. I love that you can walk or ride your bike to a friend’s house. People entertain often, so you are always going to each other’s houses for a dinner or a party.

What’s your favorite season in the area?

All of the seasons are great but summer by far is the best. The town picks up for the summer season. There are great beaches and boating on the Great South Bay, which borders beautiful protected land and nature preserves. Brookhaven Hamlet has acres of protected land which have trails and wildlife.

Fall and winter are quieter but special in their own way. The fall brings beautiful foliage to the many species of trees in our forests while the snow in winter is a beautiful backdrop against all the nature.

What drew you to the houses you selected?

Two of the houses are grand old 19th century/early 20th century houses with eclectic furnishings. I love the scale and architectural details. They both have a laid back, effortless vibe. The other two were built in the mid or later 20th century and have specific points of view. They both have a more modern and curated look with great outdoor entertaining spaces.

Architecturally, what inspires you and what makes you choose a certain location?

I am interested in many styles and periods. What inspires me are houses with integrity and interiors that are executed well. Even an older house with a period kitsch interiors can be exciting and inspiring. It depends on the project.

If you weren’t a set designer what would you like to do?

So many things interest me! Anything in art or design. I would love to develop a product line of housewares. I would also love to open another store and curate an experience for customers to shop.
